Jonathan goes backpackinging

Jonathan took his first backpacking trip in 2004. He was 7 years old!

He went with Dad and his brother David to the Lake Marion Wildlife Management Area. It was only a 1.8 mile hike, and his pack may have weighed all of 10 lbs, but that's a lot more than many adults are willing to do! Here he is dressed as cowboy/indian/backpacker with "cool shoes"

Jonathan is now fully qualified in the use of the question "are we there yet?" and most of its variations.

Of course, it's not all walking. There's time in camp, too. The campsite at Huckleberry Island is much more "comfy" than I am accustomed to. We actually had a picnic table!

Note the vista in the background. Huckleberry island is an area of open, high ground surrounded by swamp. This campsite was in an oak hammock. Around it was savannah-like open land.
