Pow Wows

We felt that attending pow wows would be a good way to help Jonathan get a feel for his Native American heritage.

At first he was against the idea, even though he was half Cherokee.

We took him anyway, and he loved it. We went to the Labor Day pow wow at Withlacoochee River Park.

Jonathan came home with a toy flute, a hematite ring, and a dream catcher.

The dream catcher went on the wall in his bedroom. He broke the hematite ring within a day or two. The flute re-appears every so often around the house.

Some of the highlights of the pow wow he talked about included talking to "real-live Indians" in dance regalia, touring the Indian village located at the park, and taking part in the kids-only dance.

At later pow wows he has made friends with other Indian and part-Indian kids.

Now he looks forward to more pow wows.
